UNIVERSITY OF THE NORTH – UNIVERSITEIT VAN HET NOORDEN
Five educational institutions come together to create continuous learning tracks for students in the northern Netherlands. The University of Groningen, UMCG, NHL Stenden, Van Hall Larenstein and Hanze University of Applied Sciences join hands to not only combine knowledge, but also to increase connections with business. The so-called ‘University of the North’ is a knowledge- and innovation centre, enlarging the visibility and the attractiveness of the north as the perfect region to study, work and live.
The northern Netherlands are full of innovative people and companies. By collaborating with each other, the University of the North hopes to educate people in the same region where they are needed most; right here in the north.
The University of the North is all about growth through collaboration. The University of the North brings together the five main educational institutions of the three northern provinces in the Netherlands; Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe. Cooperatively, the institutions strive to maximize the economic power and potential of the region together with business, (social) organizations and other knowledge-institutions. Also, by forming a united front, attraction of external capital should be easier, benefitting innovation and market traction. And this is just one of the many advantages.
The University of the North focuses on four main transitions: from fossil fuels to sustainable energy, from a linear to a circular economy, from healthcare to positive health and from analog to digital. By focusing on these transitions, the University of the North hopes to make businesses and institutions more knowledge intensive by providing them with qualified and well-educated people.
