FROM THE HEART OF SCIENCE, WITH COLLABORATION ON ALL LEVELS, SCALING UP TO IMPACT!
Last week marked the start of ‘Science to Impact’, a movement with the aim to enlarge scientific knowledge by collaborating from the heart of science on all levels. All parties that contribute to the use of scientific knowledge in practice are invited to commit to a total of 9 spearheads, all with a common goal: to achieve even more impact from excellent science from our universities, medical centres and other knowledge institutions.
The Netherlands is full of creativity and scientific knowledge to develop solutions for current worldwide challenges. Recent studies show that these challenges require a new approach, one with which Dutch excellent science can have even more impact; It is high time for a movement – of and for knowledge institutions – with one goal: Science to Impact!
Ever since valorization became a core activity of universities, big steps have been taken in the area of public-private partnerships and entrepreneurship. With Science to Impact, the aim is to find out which steps the Netherlands can take to turn even more scientific knowledge into innovations with impact and to stimulate the associated debate.
The recently mentioned 9 spearheads are subdivided into three broad outlines, all part of the common goal:
From the heart of science …
The foundation of science has to be in order. That means a considerable and continuous strengthening of both fundamental and applied science, a complete integration of valorization in the academic culture and structural valorization funding for knowledge institutions.
… with collaboration on all levels …
Regional ecosystems have a clear profile and public-private collaborations grow on campuses and in labs. Talent and diversity of researchers and entrepreneurs is given more space, among others in career possibilities
… scaling up to impact!
Scientific startups need access to financial assets in all stages of their growth, with agreements about intellectual property that enlarges the chance of impact. The focus lies on valuable use of science, from research to scaled-up innovation.
