QDI Systems selected for the EUiec Accelerator Program

QDI Systems selected for the EUeic Accelerator Program

QDI Systems, a pioneering Groningen-based deep-tech company specialized in quantum dot imaging, has been selected as one of the 71 innovative enterprises to receive funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator program. This selection comes from a highly competitive pool of 1,211 proposals, marking the most challenging funding round since the Accelerator’s inception under Horizon Europe.

The EIC Accelerator Program

The EIC Accelerator is dedicated to supporting start-ups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with high-impact innovations. It offers a combination of grants up to €2.5 million and equity investments through the EIC Fund, ranging from €0.5 to €15 million (up to €10 million as of 2025). A notable addition this year is the STEP Scale-up scheme, providing investments up to €30 million. Beyond financial support, the program offers Business Acceleration Services, granting access to expertise, corporate partners, investors, and ecosystem actors.

About QDI Systems

Founded in 2019 as a spin-off from the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials at the University of Groningen, QDI Systems specializes in developing imaging devices for medical and industry applications using advanced nanomaterial quantum dots. These semiconductor nanoparticles efficiently convert photons into electronic signals, enhancing image quality while reducing radiation exposure. In January 2024, QDI Systems secured €5 million in Series A funding to scale its groundbreaking technology to be ready-to-market.

The company’s innovative approach has the potential to revolutionize image sensors (X-ray, SWIR), particularly in procedures like mammography screening and diagnostics, by providing higher-quality images at significantly lower radiation doses. With the support of the EIC Accelerator, QDI Systems is poised to advance its mission of delivering precise and early-stage diagnostic tools to healthcare professionals.
