25 YEARS OF RUG VENTURES

The year 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of RUG Ventures, formerly known as the RUG Houdstermaatschappij. To celebrate this milestone, we decided it was time for a brand-new name and website, in order to create a fresh new image that fits with the changing needs of the ecosystem.

A time like this calls for reflection. Since its start in 1996, RUG Ventures has invested in over 80 startups. This means that over 80 new ideas have been converted to the market and over 300 people have been able to pursue their dreams. Throughout the years, we have come to play a crucial role in the valorization process of scientific knowledge originating from the RUG and we have established ourselves as the very much needed bridge between science and business. Most of the startups have grown to be full-fledged companies and many have landed in the North of the Netherlands, where they are actively working together with RUG and UMCG research groups.

If the past 25 years have taught us anything, it is to believe. It is our job to be open to new ideas, to new ways of seeing the world and to new visions of how to tackle the challenges our society faces. We cannot wait to be inspired by many more ideas in the coming years and to continue adding value to the world.
